Sky to Launch 3D Channel in UK

Posted by: Editor

After endless speculation, rumour and hyperbole Sky has finally confirmed that it will launch the UK's first 3D TV channel next year.

The satellite giant promises the channel will deliver a 'broad selection of the best available 3D programming', which may not mean a huge amount right now but we expect it to include films, sport and common or average entertainment shows.

Crucially, the new channel will use Sky's existing HD infrastructure to broadcast and will be viewable using the current Sky+HD set top box.

In order to enjoy it however, users will need to invest in a 3D Ready television and will still have to wear a pair of 3D enabled glasses (though don't think the cardboard red and blue lens versions of yesteryear or the giant wraparound black ones of more recent times), both of which Sky expects to be on sale in the UK next year to coincide with the channel launch.

Sky will divulge more information concerning exact dates, prices and programme details 'in due course', where we will of course keep you posted.
